Lunch box for middle schoolers12/5/2023 ![]() ![]() How old is my child and how big is his/her appetite during lunchtime? My four-year-old eats about three times as much as my six-year-old at lunch.Plastic is lighter weight.so my kids like to use those bentos when they have to carry their backpacks around (like at camp). Stainless steel lunch boxes are very durable and don’t hold smells or stains but can be heavy and more cumbersome for little ones to handle. Personally, I like having both options to use. Many people feel strongly about not using plastic in their homes. Plastic or metal? I really like that they are made from easy-to-clean, durable fabric and they come in a ton of really fun and colorful patterns. If you want your bento box to lay flat in the lunch bag and doesn’t need to put the bag into a backpack, the Dual Compartment or Mini Cooler styles are a good option. However, I recommend getting the Cold Pack version on their lunch boxes because they are slightly larger and will fit most of the bento boxes listed below. The Classic style will fit some of the smaller bento boxes. Pottery Barn lunch boxes are very popular. Bentos and lunch bags needed to be more compact. However, when my kids moved on to Kindergarten, they placed everything into a backpack. That way lunch components were more likely to stay the way I packed them and not get jumbled up. Lunch Bags/Boxes: What fits?įirst question: Does your child place his lunch box into a backpack or carry it separately? When my kids were in preschool we didn’t bring a backpack, so I really liked using a lunch bag that allowed the bento box to sit flat on the bottom of the bag. I like these ice packs by Kinsho because they are flat, sturdy, and the right size to keep a lunch cool for a good amount of time. To keep the food cold and fresh, I place Bento lunch containers into a lunch bag with an ice pack. See my favorite ice packs HERE. All the options are laid out in a visually appealing way without any extra effort, and simple foods like fruit, veggies, proteins, and “fun foods” can be packed up for a balanced and healthy lunch. Packing lunch in a bento doesn’t mean lunches need to be fancy. Carrots, blueberries, pretzels.all food get equal attention and opportunity to be eaten! Using one large container also cuts down on plastic bags or other disposable packaging lightening our footprint on the environment.
